Pop Up! Cold Wax and Oil Workshop with Julie Snidle

This full day workshop is for those wanting to learn a non-traditional approach to oil painting or explore oils for the first time.  No painting experience necessary!

Cold Wax Medium is an additive that extends oil paint, speeds up the drying time (a bit), and can be spread like frosting onto a wide variety of surfaces without using brushes!

This workshop will also acquaint you with R&F's luscious Pigment Sticks (compressed oil paint) and introduce you to new tools and methods for creating rich and authentic small works on paper.  This workshop is fun, a bit messy, and will change the way you think about oil painting!

Bring your own sack lunch (no food will be available for purchase). Non-alcoholic beverages and supplies will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring additional supplies of their own from the following list:

• Gloves
• Pallet knives
• White oil paint and any favorite colors
• Painters tape
• Watercolor paper or Arches Oil paper
• Mark making tools
• Gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) or baby oil for clean up

Got no supplies? No worries! We will set you up for a fun day of exploring with paint and cold wax! Participants in the pop up may book room accommodations at the Lodge Friday and/or Saturday to add on to their personal retreat experience!

About Your Visiting Instructor:

Julie Snidle, an abstract painter and teacher, was born in Minneapolis, MN. With her degree in education, she taught professionally in the classroom and worked as a corporate administrator in Dallas, TX before following her passion for art and painting. Julie is a self-taught artist who has focused on encaustic since 2004. She is a Core Support Artist/Instructor for R&F Handmade Paints based in Kingston, NY and an Artist Ambassador for Ampersand Art Panels based in Buda, TX.

Her work has received numerous awards and can be found in private collections and in public spaces nationwide. Julie teaches encaustic and oil/cold wax workshops in her home studio, at Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, AL, and throughout the U.S.

What is Cold Wax?

Cold wax medium, or CWM, is an oil painting medium. It is composed mainly of beeswax, with a small amount of solvent to soften it and other ingredients to aid in drying time. It has a soft, paste-like consistency at room temperature and dries to a matte surface. Unlike encaustic processes, it requires no heat to use it. Many luminous and unique effects are possible using CWM.
